I am a believer in magic.
The magic of gathering geese, the magic of athletic talent such as what we have seen in the Paris Olympics, the magic of connection, the magic in a sense of community. The list could go on and on honestly. I see magic everywhere.
Maybe it is a result of never actually growing up, or a result of a strong imagination but whatever the origin, I am grateful for the gift. Being able to see magic makes the dark side of life easier to handle.
Cooper's Crossroad was recently the recipient of Orchard Hill Breadworks Pizza Night. This is the third time CCR has been chosen for this event. For those who are unfamiliar with Pizza Night (from orchardhillbreadworks.com) "Pizza night is a weekly celebration of food and friendship on our beautiful hilltop farm in Alstead NH. Join us for an evening of live music, wood fired pizza and socializing, all while supporting worthy causes."
The weekly gathering runs every Tuesday: June, July and August. Each week a different organization is chosen to receive money earned through the gathering.
This description gives one the idea...but hardly gives the event the verbal credit it deserves.
At Orchard Hill Breadworks Pizza night, magic happens. I have seen it three times now.
Noah, the main pizza and Breadworks guy, has a straightforward, confident and relaxed manner that immediately puts one at ease. The organization chosen has to provide 12 volunteers for the late afternoon into the evening. The volunteer positions are clear, simple and important. Every time CCR is chosen, I volunteer. It is SO FUN and I get to witness magic everywhere.
My role this summer was an easy one, handing out desserts and salads. As I stood watching the crowd, listening to the music, hearing the laughter of children, the quiet purrs of conversations all around and the smiles everywhere, I narrowed down what ingredients magic contains.
Ingredients:
a dash of rhythm stirred with consistency
a tablespoon of serenity
a cup of community
a cup of tradition
a cup of support for greater causes
Stir in food, family, music and a stunning environment
Top with leadership and direction
Taste that and everywhere magic will begin to jump out at you. Yours will "look" different I'm sure. But at the end of each day you will close your eyes with a smile left by the memory of magic.
